With active advertising, candidates are coming to you to prove why they would be the right fit for your job. With sourcing, passive candidates aren’t usually actively looking for a new job which makes it necessary for you to prove to them why your job is a better fit than their current one. You have to be able to grab their attention and pique their interest right away.
Tips for initial outreach
- Include the job title in the subject line. This allows the candidate to immediately identify your email as relevant to them so that they’ll open your email.
- Craft a message that makes it clear you’re interested in them specifically, not mass emailing potential candidates. This doesn’t require a custom message for each candidate, but simply the use of language like “Your experience really stood out to me”.
- Include a link to the job description or include some highlights in your message.
- Give the candidate a reason to immediately consider the benefits of leaving their current job for yours. Mention benefits you offer, a competitive compensation range, remote work opportunities, and any key company accomplishments.
